Context
The umbrella organisation Detailhandel Nederland is the mouthpiece of Dutch retailers. It deals with payment transactions, digitalisation, Europe, social affairs, establishment issues and shop crime, among other things. Consultations with the government and other consultative structures ensure that the voice of retailers is heard.
Output
During a series of "retail lectures", I moderated a meeting on the theme "the accessible inner city". A trio of speakers from science, government and business first outlined a clear context, after which, under my moderation, the audience engaged in dialogue around a number of propositions such as: "Retail is ill prepared for the proposed emission-free inner cities" and "The inner city is dependent on the car". The audience first made its voice heard via an interaction tool, after which the participants engaged in plenary discussions supplemented by reflections from previous speakers. The presentations from the start of the programme were quoted and the figures mentioned came to life in the conversations with the retailers and other interested parties present. This made the meeting an important contact moment for Detailhandel Nederland in order to further identify the opinions of its members.
