"Really, my compliments: professional, very focused on the content and sensitive!"

Linda Drenth, Event Manager, Smart Camels

Context: As a former hotel school student, it is always nice to return to your roots. The Hogere Hotelschool Leeuwarden offers hotel management education for domestic and foreign students according to the DBE principle: desgin-based education.

Output: Together with Smart Camels event agency and two lecturers, we came up with a format for the Academy Day, which was all about Design-Based Education. During this day, all lecturers and other staff met each other and talked about the new DBE, in which lecturers play the role of consultant much more than that of classical classroom teacher. Not everyone found this transition easy. After a plenary kick-off, the carefully composed groups discussed a number of questions, from which the team captains gave plenary feedback with top-3 advice, in the form of a pitch. Precisely by applying a pitch after intensive discussions, a lot of positive energy was released. In plenary, two actors engaged with the attendees by role-playing around the new teaching method. By leading the discussion throughout the day, I managed to give balanced attention to different perspectives. In the end, everyone experienced the day as positive and constructive and a good step forward.
