"What a luxury to be able to do this with you as host, Robert!"
Grietje van Dijk, Head of Careers, Municipality of Amsterdam
Context
With almost 18,000 employees, the Municipality of Amsterdam is the city's largest employer. Being a good employer results in many employees having a track record of many years and enjoying working for the municipality. At the same time, the nature of work does change [e.g. due to technological developments], which is why the City of Amsterdam's Career Centre is putting the theme of labour mobility on the agenda. By doing so, it encourages employees and managers to think about their own work and potential, so that they can possibly make timely adjustments [e.g. through study, retraining or internships] in their careers. The municipality itself thus benefits from a team that does appropriate work and can connect to issues of today and those of the future.
Output
Two aimed at executives and one at employees. The aim of these livestreams was to further facilitate executives and inform and inspire viewers about career opportunities. I interviewed several professionals, including career coaches, labour market experts and employees of the Career Centre itself. The well-prepared interview with the municipal secretary, as well as the conversations with civil servants about their own career development, gave many viewers the confidence and courage to take a more conscious look at their own abilities and functioning or to have an open conversation about this with a colleague.
